Noticing beginner players struggling with the electric guitar due to the then-heavy string gauges, Ernie approached multiple companies to produce a lighter gauge, but all turned him away. Ernie Ball’s passion led to him having his own lighter gauge produced to sell in his own music store, which quickly became a hit!

After seeing guitarists use the 5th string of a banjo as the 1st string for their guitars, Ernie Ball started producing the now famous Slinky range which quickly changed the guitar string market. By the late 1960s, Ernie had moved into string production full time and relocated his business. Today, Ernie Ball continue to improve existing accessories and are constantly developing & expanding their range of strings.
